My Journey with Surrogacy: Candace’s Story
Our Case Manager, Candace, shares memories from her first surrogate journey.
I first started looking into surrogacy when two of my favorite people struggled with infertility. After multiple miscarriages, they started looking into medical treatment and alternatives. I started thinking about ways I could help, which brought me to surrogacy. I was lucky to have an uneventful pregnancy with my son and while I didn’t want any more children of my own, I was okay with being pregnant again. Through some medical assistance, my friends were able to carry to term and now have two children. However, I still felt compelled to surrogacy, after spending so much time considering it. I took another year to really dive deep into surrogacy research and everything it entailed; I joined online groups and talked to my OB/GYN about it at my annual appointment.
Once I was comfortable, I moved forward with my journey and met an amazing couple that I was blessed to carry for twice. Completing the two journeys was one of the best things I’ve ever done in my life. I will forever remember the look on the parents’ faces in the delivery room: the first time when they were finally parents at long last, something they had wanted and worked towards for so long; and the second time, when their family was complete.
(I only have a handful of pregnant pics from each journey, since I don’t like pictures of myself!)

Now, I’m almost six months out from my last journey, and feel incredibly grateful for the opportunity I had to help two very special people complete the family of their dreams.
